The wool you use to knit socks must be warm, but also resistant and withstand washing well. That is why normally a natural wool is mixed with a certain percentage of synthetic wool to provide resistance and/or softness.
Katia's United Socks wool, for example, is composed of 75% superwash wool and 25% polyamide. In this case, the natural wool adds warmth to the material, while the polyamide makes it softer. It can be washed at 30º and is available in 31 different colours.
